Students and teachers are Muslim, Christian and Druze. Students are immersed in Hebrew, English, Arabic, science and technology.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1445\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1445\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-1445\" src=\"http:\/\/www.livingstonespilgrimage.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/IMG_2472-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.livingstonespilgrimage.org\/lsp-archive\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/IMG_2472-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.livingstonespilgrimage.org\/lsp-archive\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/IMG_2472-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.livingstonespilgrimage.org\/lsp-archive\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/IMG_2472-1024x768.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-1445\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Shosh, a Jewish teacher of graphic design, 24 years&#8217; teaching at Mar Elias, with student projects on display<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Passionate educators provide more than rote teaching, they infuse students with hope and encouragement.\u00a0 The school\u2019s stellar ranking provides irrefutable evidence that their approach to education is second to none. Mar Elias boasts over 8k graduates many of whom are educators, physicians, lawyers&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Breaking into small groups, we met with ninth and tenth grade students in their English class.\u00a0 My group spoke proficient English, were polite and curious.\u00a0 <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-1448\" src=\"http:\/\/www.livingstonespilgrimage.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/IMG_4765-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.livingstonespilgrimage.org\/lsp-archive\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/IMG_4765-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.livingstonespilgrimage.org\/lsp-archive\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/IMG_4765-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.livingstonespilgrimage.org\/lsp-archive\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/IMG_4765-1024x683.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>Some of the questions asked by the students were associated with California, my home state. Students asked questions which, I imagine, are on the minds of most kids in the ninth grade.\u00a0 Following are few of the questions asked:<br \/>\nWhat\u2019s Michael Jordan like?<br \/>\nDo you ever see Justin Bieber?<br \/>\nWhat are the most popular foods?<br \/>\nWhat\u2019s better, the MMA (mixed martial arts) or Wrestling?<br \/>\nI guess kids are about the same everywhere:)<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1450\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1450\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-1450\" src=\"http:\/\/www.livingstonespilgrimage.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/IMG_4768-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.livingstonespilgrimage.org\/lsp-archive\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/IMG_4768-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.livingstonespilgrimage.org\/lsp-archive\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/IMG_4768-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.livingstonespilgrimage.org\/lsp-archive\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/IMG_4768-1024x683.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-1450\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">11th grade math students<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Next we ventured to the destroyed village of Saffuriya where British author, activist and researcher Jonathan Cook took us on a walking tour.\u00a0 Throughout the walk Mr. Cook challenged us to reexamine mainstream media sources, ask questions beyond the obvious and reimagine historical Palestine through\u00a0 the lens of Palestinians, Israelis and Americans.<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-1451\" src=\"http:\/\/www.livingstonespilgrimage.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/IMG_4826-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.livingstonespilgrimage.org\/lsp-archive\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/IMG_4826-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.livingstonespilgrimage.org\/lsp-archive\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/IMG_4826-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.livingstonespilgrimage.org\/lsp-archive\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/IMG_4826-1024x683.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Today confirmed for me that I will continue my pilgrimage to understand the Palestinian\/Israeli\/American plight not simply from\u00a0 an academic perspective rather from the perspective of those affected.\u00a0 My processing has just began as I try to understand the\u00a0 irreparable damage done by governments, unfair policy, fake news&#8230;much attributed to a Divine.<\/p>\n<p>~ Sharon Andre<\/p>\n<p>PS &#8211;
